2 An act relating to security for nominees and officers-
3 elect to the offices of Governor and Lieutenant
4 Governor; creating s. 99.122, F.S.; requiring the
5 Department of Law Enforcement to provide certain
6 nominees and officers-elect with a protective security
7 detail for a specified time period; providing an
8 effective date.
10 Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida:
12 Section 1. Section 99.122, Florida Statutes, is created to
13 read:
14 99.122 Protective security detail for nominees and
15 officers-elect.—The Department of Law Enforcement must provide a
16 protective security detail to all nominees of a political party,
17 other than the nominees of a minor political party, to the
18 offices of Governor and Lieutenant Governor. The protective
19 security detail must be provided immediately upon the
20 adjournment of the meeting of the Elections Canvassing
21 Commission certifying the results of the primary election under
22 s. 102.111 until the relevant nominee concedes the general
23 election or upon adjournment of the meeting of the Elections
24 Canvassing Commission certifying the results of the general
25 election under s. 102.111, whichever is earlier. The Department
26 of Law Enforcement must continue to provide a protective
27 security detail to the officers-elect until the officers-elect
28 assume office.
29 Section 2. This act shall take effect July 1, 2026.
