EFFECTIVE
This act shall take effect on the effective date of the amendment to the State Constitution proposed by HJR 67 or a similar joint resolution having substantially the same specified intent and purpose, if such amendment to the State Constitution is approved at the next general election or at an earlier special election specifically authorized by law for that purpose.
OFFICIAL RECORD
PROVIDED SUMMARY
Assessment of Homestead Property; Reducing maximum increase in assessed value authorized for homestead property.
Plain English Summary
AI-GENERATEDCaps annual homestead value growth at 1.5% instead of 3%.
Florida law currently limits the annual increase in a homestead's assessed value to the lower of 3% or the Consumer Price Index change.
This bill lowers that 3% cap to 1.5%, meaning the assessed value can grow more slowly in years when the CPI is high.
The change takes effect only if a related constitutional amendment is approved by voters.
Homeowners with homestead exemptions will see slower growth in their property tax base, potentially reducing their annual tax bills.
KEY PROVISIONS
AILowers the maximum annual increase in assessed value for homestead property from 3% to 1.5%.
“One and one-half percent of the assessed value of the property for the prior year”
