A resolution condemning the persecution of Christians
3
in Nigeria and supporting Nigeria's redesignation as a
4
Country of Particular Concern.

WHEREAS, Nigeria is experiencing the highest levels of
7
violence against Christians in the world since Boko Haram's
8
insurgency began in 2009, and
9
WHEREAS, according to the International Society for Civil
10
Liberties and Rule of Law, since 2009 approximately 52,250
11
Christians have been brutally murdered in Nigeria, more than
12
anywhere else in the world, and more than 19,000 churches have
13
been attacked or destroyed, and
14
WHEREAS, estimates indicate that between 50,000 and 100,000
15
Christians have been martyred for their faith since 2009, with
16
more than 7,000 Christians killed in 2025, an average of 35 per
17
day, and
18
WHEREAS, Boko Haram, the Islamic State West Africa
19
Province, and Fulani militants have systematically targeted
20
Christian communities through massacres, church burnings,
21
kidnappings, and sexual violence, leaving villages destroyed and
22
millions displaced, and
23
WHEREAS, more than 5 million Christians have been displaced
24
and forced into Internally Displaced Person or refugee camps in
25
Nigeria, and
26
WHEREAS, some reports describe the violence as amounting to
27
a targeted persecution of Christians, with higher risk for
28
Christian civilians relative to other religious groups, and
29
WHEREAS, the United States Commission on International
30
Religious Freedom has recommended Nigeria's redesignation as a
31
Country of Particular Concern every year since 2009, citing
32
ongoing, egregious, and systematic violations of religious
33
freedom, NOW, THEREFORE,

Be It Resolved by the House of Representatives of the State of
36
Florida:

That the Florida House of Representatives condemns the
39
persecution of Christians in Nigeria and supports Nigeria's
40
redesignation as a Country of Particular Concern.
