A resolution designating March 8, 2026, as

"International Women's Day" in Florida.

WHEREAS, International Women's Day is an annual celebration
6
of women's cultural, educational, economic, political, and
7
social accomplishments, and recognizes the achievements of
8
women, regardless of their cultural, economic, ethnic,
9
linguistic, national, or political divisions, and
10
WHEREAS, on February 28, 1909, the first national Women's
11
Day was observed in the United States, and
12
WHEREAS, on June 26, 1945, the Charter of the United
13
Nations was signed, marking the first affirmation of equality
14
between women and men by international agreement, and
15
WHEREAS, the United Nations celebrated International
16
Women's Day for the first time on March 8, 1975, and 2 years
17
later, declared a day for international peace and women's rights
18
by resolution in the United Nations General Assembly, and
19
WHEREAS, every year, approximately 12 million girls
20
worldwide are married before they reach the age of 18, and
21
WHEREAS, according to the International Labour
22
Organization, 71 percent of the estimated 40 million victims of
23
modern slavery in 2016 were women and girls, and
24
WHEREAS, according to the World Health Organization, an
25
estimated one out of three women around the world has
26
experienced some form of physical or sexual violence, and
27
WHEREAS, currently, approximately 41 percent of the members
28
of the Florida Legislature are women, including 51
29
representatives and 16 senators, and
30
WHEREAS, in continuing the tradition of honoring Florida
31
women, Governor Ron DeSantis selected May Mann Jennings, Graci
32
McGillicuddy, and Penny Thompson as the 2023 inductees to the
33
Florida Women's Hall of Fame for making significant
34
contributions in the life of women and residents of Florida, and
35
WHEREAS, approximately 73.8 percent of women are active in
36
the workforce, with the most popular occupations for women being
37
tied to the medical field, education, and childcare, as well as
38
managerial roles, and
39
WHEREAS, the theme of International Women's Day 2026 is
40
"Give to Gain," NOW, THEREFORE,

Be It Resolved by the House of Representatives of the State of
43
Florida:

That March 8, 2026, is designated as "International Women's
46
Day" in Florida to celebrate the day by honoring the
47
achievements and accomplishments of women.
