A resolution designating March 2026 as "Colorectal

Cancer Awareness Month" in Florida.

WHEREAS, colorectal cancer is currently the second most
6
common cause of cancer deaths among men and women in the United
7
States when the numbers are combined, and
8
WHEREAS, one in 24 people will be diagnosed with colorectal
9
cancer in their lifetime, and
10
WHEREAS, each year, approximately 150,000 people are
11
diagnosed with, and an estimated 50,000 people will die from,
12
colorectal cancer in the United States, and
13
WHEREAS, according to the Department of Health, there were
14
37.8 colorectal cancer incidences per 100,000 Floridians, when
15
adjusted for age, in 2022, and
16
WHEREAS, regular screening, beginning at the age of 45, can
17
discover colorectal cancer in its earlier stages and may
18
increase colorectal cancer survival rates, and
19
WHEREAS, increasing awareness and education concerning
20
colorectal cancer can lead to significant progress in both
21
preventing and overcoming the disease as the majority of cases
22
have proven to be both treatable and survivable, and
23
WHEREAS, educational campaigns and efforts can provide
24
information to the public on methods of prevention and screening
25
and can help with early detection, and
26
WHEREAS, there are more than 1.5 million colorectal cancer
27
survivors in the United States, NOW, THEREFORE,

Be It Resolved by the House of Representatives of the State of

Florida:

That March 2026 is designated as "Colorectal Cancer
33
Awareness Month" in Florida.
