A resolution recognizing March 21, 2026, as "Persian
3
New Year Day" in Florida, celebrating the historical
4
and cultural significance of Nowruz, and expressing
5
appreciation for the contributions of Iranian
6
Americans.

WHEREAS, Nowruz, the traditional Persian New Year, has been
9
celebrated for more than 3,000 years, dating back to ancient
10
Persia, and
11
WHEREAS, Nowruz, or "New Day," which marks the arrival of
12
spring, is celebrated on the day of the vernal equinox, and
13
WHEREAS, the creation of the Haft-seen table, a symbolic
14
spread of seven elements representing beauty, health, patience,
15
spring, fertility, rebirth, and prosperity, is an important part
16
of the Nowruz tradition, and
17
WHEREAS, Nowruz is celebrated by hundreds of millions of
18
Iranians and other persons all over the world, including as
19
Novruz in Azerbaijan, Navruz in Uzbekistan, and Nowruz in
20
Afghanistan, as well as by Iranian Americans of all spiritual
21
belief in the United States, including those of Baha'i,
22
Christian, Jewish, Muslim, or Zoroastrian faiths and those with
23
nonreligious backgrounds, and
24
WHEREAS, members of the Iranian American community, many of
25
whom have made a lasting impact on the social and economic
26
fabric of this state, including providing life-saving medical
27
care, contributing to the National Aeronautics and Space
28
Administration space program, and serving on the University of
29
Florida's Board of Trustees, nevertheless Iranian Americans
30
maintain strong ties to the people of Iran, and
31
WHEREAS, Nowruz symbolizes a time of renewal, community,
32
and hope for the future for many Iranian Americans celebrating
33
the New Year, NOW, THEREFORE,

Be It Resolved by the House of Representatives of the State of

Florida:

That the Florida House of Representatives recognizes March
39
21, 2026, as "Persian New Year Day" in Florida and wishes all
40
those who observe Nowruz a peaceful and prosperous year.
