A resolution designating November 2026 as "Lung Cancer

Awareness Month" in Florida.

WHEREAS, lung cancer is the leading cause of cancer-related
6
deaths in the United States and in Florida, claiming more lives
7
each year than breast, prostate, and colorectal cancers
8
combined, and
9
WHEREAS, lung cancer affects individuals and families of
10
all ages, backgrounds, and cultures, and many individuals
11
diagnosed with lung cancer have never smoked tobacco or had quit
12
smoking decades before the diagnosis, and
13
WHEREAS, early detection of lung cancer through evidence-
14
based screening, advancements in treatment, and increased public
15
awareness have significantly improved survival rates and the
16
quality of life for lung cancer patients, and
17
WHEREAS, Lung Cancer Awareness Month, observed nationally
18
each November, serves to educate the public about the risk
19
factors and symptoms of, and screening options for, lung cancer
20
and the importance of lung cancer prevention, research, and
21
medical innovation, and
22
WHEREAS, recognizing Lung Cancer Awareness Month honors
23
those who have lost their lives to the disease, supports
24
patients currently battling lung cancer, and acknowledges the
25
caregivers, healthcare professionals, researchers, and advocates
26
who work tirelessly to combat lung cancer, NOW, THEREFORE,

Be It Resolved by the House of Representatives of the State of

Florida:

That November 2026 is designated as "Lung Cancer Awareness

Month" in Florida.
