1 House Resolution
2 A resolution designating April 16, 2026, as "Wolf-
3 Hirschhorn/4p-Syndrome Awareness Day" in Florida.
5 WHEREAS, the health and well-being of all Floridians
6 contributes greatly to the prosperity and livelihood of our
7 state's families and communities, and
8 WHEREAS, Wolf-Hirschhorn syndrome, also known as 4p-
9 syndrome, is a genetic disorder caused by a partial deletion of
10 the short arm of chromosome 4, and
11 WHEREAS, children with 4p-syndrome are usually born with
12 weak muscle tone and develop slowly, both cognitively and
13 physically, compared to their same-age peers, and experience
14 medical complications while still trying to maintain a normal
15 childhood, and
16 WHEREAS, medical professionals are researching this rare
17 disease, its misdiagnosis, and the exploration of new therapies
18 and diagnostic tools to help individuals with 4p-syndrome and
19 their families, and
20 WHEREAS, 4p-syndrome affects an estimated one in 50,000
21 births, which may be underestimated because some cases are
22 undiagnosed, and
23 WHEREAS, effective diagnostic screenings, early
24 intervention, treatments, and families and advocates can
25 increase knowledge and awareness of 4p-syndrome, and
26 WHEREAS, doctors in Florida continue to diagnose, study,
27 and provide treatment for specific symptoms of Wolf-
28 Hirschhorn/4p-syndrome, NOW, THEREFORE,
30 Be It Resolved by the House of Representatives of the State of
31 Florida:
33 That April 16, 2026, is designated as "Wolf-Hirschhorn/4p-
34 Syndrome Awareness Day" in Florida.
