1 House Resolution
2 A resolution designating the week of April 6-12, 2026,
3 as "Vein Week" in Florida.
5 WHEREAS, venous and lymphatic diseases, including venous
6 thromboembolism defined as deep vein thrombosis or pulmonary
7 embolism, represent a serious and often under recognized public
8 health threat, and
9 WHEREAS, venous thromboembolism is a leading cause of
10 preventable illness and death and affects tens of thousands of
11 Floridians each year, and
12 WHEREAS, venous thromboembolism is the leading cause of
13 preventable hospital death, and
14 WHEREAS, early identification of risk factors, public
15 education, and appropriate clinical screening can significantly
16 reduce preventable complications and deaths related to blood
17 clots and other venous disorders, and
18 WHEREAS, Vein Week is an internationally recognized public
19 health awareness initiative held annually in April to promote
20 education and prevention related to venous and lymphatic disease
21 among both the public and health care professionals worldwide,
22 and
23 WHEREAS, the goals of Vein Week align with Florida's
24 ongoing efforts to improve patient safety, strengthen prevention
25 strategies, and promote public awareness of venous and
26 thrombotic conditions, and
27 WHEREAS, the Florida Legislature, through the passage of
28 the Emily Adkins Family Protection Act in 2025, is leading all
29 states by requiring screening for venous thromboembolism risks,
30 and
31 WHEREAS, the Florida Legislature has recognized venous
32 thromboembolism as a chronic disease, and
33 WHEREAS, the Florida Legislature created the first blood
34 clot registry in the United States to collect data for the
35 purpose of advancing health and new therapies NOW, THEREFORE,
37 Be It Resolved by the House of Representatives of the State of
38 Florida:
40 That the week of April 6-12, 2026, is designated as "Vein
41 Week" in Florida to increase awareness of venous and lymphatic
42 disease and the importance of early detection and prevention.
