A resolution designating October 12–18, 2026, as

"Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder Awareness Week" in

Florida.

WHEREAS, Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) is a chronic
7
and debilitating mental health disorder that affects millions of
8
individuals worldwide, and
9
WHEREAS, OCD is a mental health disorder with a sliding
10
scale of severity marked by persistent, intrusive thoughts and
11
repetitive behaviors or mental acts performed to alleviate
12
distress, and
13
WHEREAS, intrusive thoughts and repetitive behaviors, while
14
often intended to alleviate distress or prevent a feared event,
15
can interfere significantly with daily activities,
16
relationships, education, and employment, and
17
WHEREAS, OCD affects approximately 1 in 40 adults and 1 in
18
100 children in the United States, and
19
WHEREAS, misconceptions about OCD often lead to stigma,
20
which delays diagnosis and treatment, and
21
WHEREAS, Florida is home to dedicated treatment and
22
research centers engaged in advancing understanding of OCD,
23
improving access to care, and supporting individuals and
24
families affected by OCD, and
25
WHEREAS, the International OCD Foundation annually
26
designates a week in October as OCD Awareness Week to educate
27
the public, discourage myths, and promote understanding of OCD
28
and related disorders, NOW, THEREFORE,

Be It Resolved by the House of Representatives of the State of
31
Florida:

That the week of October 12–18, 2026, is designated as
34
"Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) Awareness Week" in Florida.
