1 House Resolution

2 A resolution commemorating the 100th anniversary of

3 Indian River County.

5 WHEREAS, Indian River County was officially established on

6 May 30, 1925, when it was formed from the northern portion of

7 St. Lucie County, becoming Florida's 65th county, and

8 WHEREAS, the county was named in honor of the Indian River

9 Lagoon, a precious ecological estuary that continues to play a

10 vital role in the region's ecological well‑ being and identity,

11 and

12 WHEREAS, as of 2024, Indian River County's estimated

13 population stood at 172,139, reflecting its steady growth, and

14 WHEREAS, Indian River County comprises diverse and vibrant

15 municipalities, including the City of Vero Beach, the City of

16 Sebastian, the Town of Indian River Shores, the Town of Orchid,

17 and the City of Fellsmere, that are united under the county's

18 governance framework, and

19 WHEREAS, the county's Board of County Commissioners,

20 serving as the governing body of Indian River County, currently

21 includes Deryl Loar, Chairman; Laura Moss, Vice‑ Chairman; Susan

22 Adams, Commissioner; Joe Earman, Commissioner, and Joseph E.

23 Flescher, Commissioner, all working collectively to guide the

24 county's laws, policies, and progress, and

25 WHEREAS, Indian River County is renowned for its vibrant

26 citrus industry, particularly Indian River grapefruit and its

27 environmentally rich habitats, including the Indian River Lagoon

28 and Pelican Island National Wildlife Refuge, which is the first

29 national wildlife refuge in the United States, and

30 WHEREAS, 2025 marks a milestone celebrating a century of

31 contributions to Florida's history and community life, NOW,

32 THEREFORE,

34 Be It Resolved by the House of Representatives of the State of

35 Florida:

37 That the Legislature honors and congratulates Indian River

38 County on its 100th anniversary, recognizing its rich heritage,

39 enduring spirit, and contributions to Florida's prosperity and

40 quality of life.

41 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution be

42 presented to the Indian River County Board of County

43 Commissioners as a tangible token of the sentiments expressed

44 herein.
