A resolution designating November 2026 as "Pancreatic
3
Cancer Awareness Month" in Florida.

WHEREAS, pancreatic cancer typically develops when cells in
6
the pancreas mutate and multiply, forming a tumor, and
7
WHEREAS, symptoms often appear only in advanced stages,
8
pancreatic cancer is difficult to detect early, contributing to
9
its ranking as one of the deadliest cancers in the United
10
States, and
11
WHEREAS, early symptoms of pancreatic cancer may include
12
loss of appetite, weight loss, jaundice, dark-colored urine, and
13
pain and swelling in an arm or leg which may be caused by a
14
blood clot, and
15
WHEREAS, while there is no guaranteed way to prevent
16
pancreatic cancer, lifestyle changes such as avoiding tobacco
17
use, maintaining a healthy weight, engaging in regular physical
18
activity, eating a balanced diet rich in fruits and vegetables,
19
and managing diabetes can significantly reduce a person's risk
20
for developing the disease, and
21
WHEREAS, it is estimated that in 2025, 67,440 people were
22
diagnosed with pancreatic cancer, and
23
WHEREAS, of all major cancers, pancreatic cancer has one of
24
the highest mortality rates and is among the leading causes of
25
cancer-related death in the United States, and
26
WHEREAS, national awareness campaigns and organizations
27
annually observe "Pancreatic Cancer Awareness Month" in November
28
by promoting the color purple, educating the public on warning
29
signs, and advocating for increased research funding, and
30
WHEREAS, "Pancreatic Cancer Awareness Month" highlights
31
survivors and families of victims of pancreatic cancer, honoring
32
their strength, perseverance, and advocacy in the fight against
33
this devastating disease, and
34
WHEREAS, health care providers, researchers, survivors,
35
caregivers, and advocacy organizations throughout the state work
36
tirelessly to improve outcomes for those affected by pancreatic
37
cancer, and
38
WHEREAS, dedicating a formal awareness month provides an
39
opportunity to highlight advances in research and treatment,
40
equitable access to care, and public education about prevention
41
and early detection, NOW, THEREFORE,

Be It Resolved by the House of Representatives of the State of
44
Florida:

That November 2026 is designated as "Pancreatic Cancer
47
Awareness Month" in the State of Florida.
